چکیده

Candida boidinii, Growth on Ethanol, Presence M onofluoracetate, Red Dipyrromethene Pigment, Structure Elucidation The yeast Candida boidinii ATCC 32195 produces a cell-bound red pigment during growth on 1% ethanol in the presence o f 0.05% monofluoracetate. Its isolation and purification are described. The structure was elucidated by chemical degradation and physical methods, mainly mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

The stereospecificity of the oxidation of trans-hex-2-en-l-01 and ethanol was determined for alcohol oxidases from Tanacetum vulgare leaves and from the yeast Candida boidinii. It was found that both enzymes remove the pro-1R hydrogen. The enzyme from Candida boidinii also removes the pro-1S hydrogen but t!o a much lesser degree.

Candida boidinii and Candida sojae yeasts were isolated from energy cane bagasse and plague-insects. Both have fast xylose uptake rate and produce great amounts of xylitol, which are interesting features for food and 2G ethanol industries.
